As dusk falls in Kentucky, the birdsong gives way to a chorus of frogs and insects, familiar roads become less familiar, and it's easy to get lost. And those who are already lost may find themselves on a secret highway that runs through a system of underground caves. The people who live and work along this road seem a little strange at first, but you soon get used to them - an aging delivery guy delivering the last order for a closing antique store, a girl who repairs old televisions surrounded by ghosts, a boy and his giant eagle friend, robot musicians, an invisible but invisibly watching power company, and small communities living out their days, struggling with their own extinction.

Kentucky Route Zero is a five-act magical realism game featuring a haunting electronic score, as well as a set of anthems and bluegrass tunes from The Bedquilt Ramblers. It's a story about unpaid debts, an impossible future, and people searching for a place in society. The game's gorgeous visuals are inspired by theater, film, and experimental electronic art as much as the history of video games.
